Using the sale market
Using the sale market
This is where goods are bought and sold, rather than skills. The seller names an asking price and buyers make offers against it.
Listing an item
Listings are created from Dashboard → Sales → New listing. Three things make offers far more likely.
| What to include | How to write it |
|---|---|
| Condition | Be specific about marks and wear. "Excellent condition" tells a buyer nothing |
| Photos | The whole item, plus close-ups of anything that shows its condition |
| Asking price | Say whether there is room to negotiate |
Selling without mentioning a flaw that the photos do not show always causes a problem after delivery. Stating it up front actually sells the item faster.
Receiving offers
Buyers send you an amount. As the seller you can do one of three things.
- 01AcceptThe sale starts at that amount. All other offers close.
- 02DeclineThe buyer is notified. Adding a reason often brings back a revised offer.
- 03Leave itThe buyer may withdraw the offer themselves.
Payment
Once you accept, the buyer proceeds to pay. There are two methods.
| Method | How it works |
|---|---|
| Wallet balance | Deducted from the balance. Top up first if it is short |
| PayPal | The buyer is taken to PayPal and returned here after paying |
As with skill work, we hold the payment rather than passing it straight on. It reaches the seller once the handover is finished (Escrow and how a job progresses).
Handing over
Agree how the item will be sent or handed over in messages, and keep that agreement there.
- If posting, use a trackable service and give the buyer the number
- If handing over in person, put the place and time in writing
Once the buyer confirms what they received and marks it complete, the payment goes to the seller.
Cancelling
Before payment, either side can cancel by agreement. After payment, it follows the same route as cancelling an escrow contract. Where you cannot agree, raise a dispute and we will take both accounts of it.
Do not agree to cancel around the handover. Cancelling before the item is sent returns the payment to the buyer; equally, you are not obliged to agree to a cancellation after receiving the item. If you are unsure, do not mark it complete — raise a dispute instead.
